For some strange reason it had to be, It was all a dream about Tennessee [Nov. 2nd, 2005|10:34 am]
It seems like my Log posts have gotten a little further in between, but I will try to make them quality ones. This past weekend was phenomenal. Friday, Sonya and I hopped in the Concorde drove up Knoxville and my brother's house. We enjoyed some time with his family and then a very good dinner in of "pot rot" cooked to my grandmother's specifications. It's really hard to beat that. Saturday, we got moving pretty early in the afternoon to do some drinking before the USC-UT game. As my brother suggested we partied with the natives rather than tailgating and hitting the USC rally point. We bar-hopped our way up Cumberland Road and even tailgated with some of my brother's coworkers. Everyone was very nice and generally friendly everywhere we went. The game itself was very exciting. Both teams struggled a bit offensively, and some defensive playmaking kept us in the game. We wound up retaking the lead with under 3 minutes left, as our kicker hit a huge 49 yard field goal. Our USC section - which I was up front and in the middle of - went nuts. As the Vols failed to get in field goal range on their possession, our section went freakin' apeshit. It was amazing. The UT fans filed out, but our section was there making noise for 20 minutes after the game. It was easily one of the greatest games I have ever been to. As a side note, I am now 3-1 historically in my road games.

Party Like It's Yer Birthday [Oct. 18th, 2005|11:14 am]
This weekend was a pretty topnotch birthday weekend. Sonya came up and broke into my apartment on Friday. She went above and beyond really. I got a lotta nice little gifts too, including a new golfbag. Saturday had us eating Italian with my family and then a fantastic surprise party. I don't believe I've ever had one of those. It was at Jillians and there were a decent handful of people there. It was a good time. Sonya and I played golf on Sunday as well. Brilliant weekend. The only thing particularly good that happened on my actual birthday yesterday was that a guest that had stayed with us last week actually did send me two tickets to the USC-Tennessee game at the end of this month.

Chowda! I'm mad fer it! [Oct. 10th, 2005|12:42 pm]
Ok, I've been slacking off on the journal big time. I'll try to hit as many high points as possible from lately.

First off, Sonya and I went to Atlanta about 2 weeks ago to see Oasis. It was fantastic. Notably, on the way there I almost got rudely hit by a passing car on the left, which then passed someone in the breakdown lane, and weaved through traffic only to cause a 3 car accident up the way. Atlanta drivers are idiots. Kasabian opened nicely. Jet played with some fervor. Oasis triumphantly took the stage. They played great song after great song, with of course proper emphasis on the new stuff. They did throw in the great ole b-side "Acquiesce". Great show! We had good seats with an aisle right in front of us. With noone checking tickets for the seating areas, people with lawn tickets chose to stand in the aisle we were behind i.e. we paid twice as much for tickets as people jumping around in front of us. Sonya set to making sure we could see well. After asking them to move twice, she mentioned it to security guy. Security guy cleared the row, and he spent the rest of the show making sure noone stood in the line of view of Sonya or myself. Superb.

My hotel was officially purchased my a new company. This means new ownership and a new management group. Everybody was fired and rehired again, pending drug test results. Our old GM is out with the ole company and his former right hand man has been promoted to take his place.

The Red Sox were swept in the first round of the playoffs. That really sucks.

This weekend, Sonya and I went down to our second USC game of the season vs. Kentucky. We ate some Zesto's chicken and threw around a football, as our neighboring tailgater taught her daughter how tailgate (the trunk is to stay open at all times! NEVER close it until we are done.) We met Kenny, Whitey, and their ladies in the student section. After a frustrating 10-10 halftime score, USC took control and showed a bit of promise. Of course we sucked the previous week. We then joined my parents and sister for some postgame tailgating. We came back up to Fort Mill, where made Rocky Point-style Chowder (not the white chowda!) and Clam Cakes for dinner. It all actually came out very good for a first try. Such a pleasant surprise.

To Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hinely [Sep. 19th, 2005|11:12 am]
There has been a lot of good times during the last few days. Thursday had me getting up early to play golf. I played one of my best rounds I think. I shot a 96 but it was from the back tees. I was hitting very straight. That's the best part. There wasn't much rest afterwards as I met Adam for beers and Golden Tee. Good times. I worked the morning and then we went down to Elgin for Kenny's wedding rehearsal. This was followed by a dinner and then Jillians with Kenny/Jill, Ricky/Elizabeth, and Derrek/Laina. Fun stuff. Saturday was a rather long day as I had to get up pretty early to pick up mu tux. Thanks to Sonya for coming along. I also had to be at the church way too early. The wedding and everything went well. Jill's father was the minister. He got a bit flustered because that's a pretty emotional situation. My highlight was when he said that "you were once 1, you now have become 2." Huh? The reception was very nice. The location was great and there was a fine selection of heavy appetizers. It was "dry" but many people in attendance had prepared for that so there was a bit o' dancing afterall. In the end, Sonya and I bowled with Ricky/Elizabeth and Derrek/Laina. My congratulations to Kenny and Jill. I think they are a great great couple and should prove to stay happy forever. Kenny took this occasion to close out his "blog". Brotha better not fall out of touch.

An Encounter with Parking Lot Rage [Sep. 15th, 2005|01:05 am]
Err what is new? Sonya and I went to see Coldplay recently. We jockeyed for a good spot on the lawn. I must say I enjoyed it for the most part. They're not the greatest live band in the world, but it was interesting to see all they had added to mask that. They had quite the intense video screen action behind them and as always lotsa good lightshow action. Good band, quite different than at Grady Cole Center (like a large high school gym) a couple of years ago... This morning, I pulled into a local store into the ideal parking space in from of the entrance. I did not even notice there was a middle aged guy in a compact car waiting for the space. Dude went ape-shit. He slammed the gas and pulled inches away from my car. He glared at me and slammed the car in reverse, backing directly into a curb. Bamm! That can't be good for the rear axles. He then turned and found a space quickly and jumped out of his car. I quickly tried to sound pathetic and claimed not to know he was parking there. He more or less was embarrassed and walked away. What a dumbass.

Attack of the Killer Water Cooler [Sep. 8th, 2005|11:15 am]
Yesterday I played some golf by myself in the morning. I played really well as I actually parred 6 holes and scored a 93. The most notable event of the round was on the fifth hole. I pulled up to a watercooler and dispensed a cool "cone" of water. I was enjoying my water by the cooler and the whole freakin' thing slams down on me. The cooler, the metal casing, the stand, everything slams down on my chest and shoulder. Water everywhere! Very strange. I didn't sustain any injuries fortunately. Later in the day, I went down to see my dear Sonya. We had a burrito and went to see The Constant Gardener. Not a bad movie. Well directed (same guy as City of God), but a little drawn out. Still good though. We also played some Golden Tee, and I was dominant like old times. Patriots open their season tonight. Can you say 3-peat?

Steve Spurrier era - Game 1 [Sep. 6th, 2005|11:33 am]
The last two days at work have been terrible and slow because of the holiday. I want to say I've checked in a grand total of 20 people. At least today should flow along better. On Thursday, I cruised from work down to Columbia. I picked up Sonya and headed immediately to the USC game. Our offense looked intense during the first half. In the second half, emphasis was our swiss cheese defense and strange need to turn the ball over. In the end it was closer and more stressful than it should have been but we are now one-and-oh. On Saturday, Sonya's friend Sofia came into town and the lot of us were joined by others for the zoo, sushi, drinking, and fortunately very little dancing. On Sunday night, I enjoyed some Labor Day drinking of wine with Jessica. I think I finally caught up on sleep this morning. To think, I almost went golfing early instead.

Surf's Up - No Fishin' [Aug. 29th, 2005|10:56 am]
I am home from my "bachelor deepsea fishing trip" on Isle of Palms, SC. Funny thing was we couldn't go deep-sea fishing due to projected 7-8 foot swells in the ocean, which I'm told would have really sucked but didn't pan out to be quite as bad. Instead, highlights included drinking 5 car-bombs apiece in a 30 minute span and a barrage of vicious karaoke at a bar. Personally, I have never done actual karaoke, just the Jonas rock and roll extravaganza stuff. While this did not compare to that, I have a strong desire to go do it again. Of course, there was a pretty solid song list at this place. Odds are I won't be able to go just anywhere and sing Pulp ya know. Anyhow it all was a good time. Congrats to Kenny, the man of the hour and notably also the birthday boy. Gotta head to work soon enough. On that note, the new guy quit. I think he worked either 3 or 4 days. What a lameass.

Whoop-ass [Aug. 23rd, 2005|12:25 am]
Today found me playing my second round of golf in the last 4 days. I continue to strike the ball pretty well. I have stupid breakdowns, such as 3 shots to get out of a sandtraps twice today. Youch. However, my fairly average 101 I shot today (not as nice as my 96 the other day) destroyed the competition. I was surrounded my so very sloppy looking golf. This made me wonder about my golf partners of the day (minus Adam I think) being good to play with. I think I need to find a couple of superior golfers that I could learn from and strive to do better against. Saturday was Kenny's couples bridal shower bbq thing. It was a pretty good time. I bought the lad an electric can-opener (as registered for) and suggested his marriage "open up a can o' whoop-ass" in the card. Yea, I'm lame. I'm stoked for some deep-sea fishing this weekend.
